You are bidding on a reproduction of a Civil War/Victorian 1860's era skirt and jacket. This outfit is newly sewn by me and is constructed from authentic period patterns (based on actual fashion plates from the period). This two piece outfit would be perfect for church on Sunday, watching the reenactment, or a stroll around the shops. With all of the sumptuous braiding on this jacket, you are bound to be complemented no matter where you where it.

The fabric is a beautiful shade of cornflower blue. This outfit is based on actual illustrations from Petersons. The jacket has loads of military inspired braid, and was the height of fashion during this era. The braid is 100% cotton is NOT a purchased trimming that was applied to the garment, but is actually hand formed and stitched. The outfit is shown on a dress form with a bust measurement of 47 inches and a waist measurement of 40 1/2 inches. The dress is displayed over a 6-bone hoopskirt, which is not included. The skirt measures 43 inches at the center front. This skirt is unhemmed, and is slightly longer in the back to give a more graceful appearance. This is a period correct method for hemming a dress of this type as it allows the skirt to fall gracefully over the hips and not ride up in the back. The skirt has a generous 176 inch sweep. The skirt closes in the center back with a hook and bar closure.

The jacket closes with hand sewn hooks and eyes. The buttons are done in the same fabric as the dress so as to not detract from the braidwork. The jacket is lined with 100% cotton muslin, and the sleeves have been faced with the garment fabric so that the lining fabric doesn't show when you move or lift your arms.

*** All fabric used is 100% cotton. All fabric was pre-washed before this outfit was made so that no shrinkage should occur.
