You are bidding on a reproduction of a Civil War/Victorian 1860's era skirt and jacket. This outfit is so elegant, and I only wish that I had made it in my size so that I could keep it! This outfit is newly sewn by me and is constructed from authentic period patterns (based on actual garments from the period). The jacket is called a riding jacket. Similar jackets were worn for riding and visiting during this time period. This outfit would be perfectly for church on Sunday, an afternoon tea, or a stroll around the shops.

The jacket is a beautiful navy 100% cotton twill type fabric, and is lined (the sleeves are unlined) in the same beautiful plaid as the skirt. The outfit is shown on a dress form with a bust measurement of 44 inches and a waist measurement of 36 inches. It is displayed over a 6-bone hoopskirt, which is not included in the auction. The button holes are machine sewn, but have been finished just to size, so that they are not visible around the buttons. The buttons are fabric covered buttons in the same lovely plaid as the collar, lining, and skirt.

The skirt is also 100% cotton, and is a WOVEN plaid, not a printed on design. The skirt measures 43 inches at the center front from waist to the hem. This dress is UNHEMMED, and I will hem it to the winning bidder's specifications if requested. The skirt fastens in the back with a hook and bar closure. The skirt has a generous 176 inch sweep. The skirt is slightly longer in the back. This is a period correct method for hemming as it allows the skirt to fall gracefully over the hips and not ride up in the back.

*** Only 100% cotton has been used to give breathability to the fabric in hot weather. All fabric was pre-washed before this outfit was made so that no shrinkage should occur.
